In Tillsammans (after the film "Tillsammans" by Lukas Moodysson), 14 young creators/players from KASK Drama play the story of a 1970s Swedish commune. Elisabeth decides to become part of the politically leftist living group "Tesamen" after she flees from her husband. The rules are simple: Pippie Longstocking is a capitalist, washing dishes is bourgeois and porridge is the delicacy. But not everyone is happy about her arrival.
It becomes a multidisciplinary theater piece that shows that living together is anything but obvious, and yet much needed. Although the hippies are no longer relevant and the Cold War passé, the actors find parallels in our contemporary, tempestuous political climate. Could cohousing be a solution to the housing market crisis? Who are the Nixons of our time? How do you create a performance in eight weeks? How do you juxtapose 14 different opinions? How do you not fly at each other's throats? Or do you? Collectivity, conflict and a little communism.
Tillsammans is an exuberant location project by third-year Drama students at KASK & Conservatory and Camping Sunset. The playing field is NTGent's city theater. Together they adopt the methodology à la Sunset: choosing a piece in a few weeks, adapting it and exploring it as much as possible on the floor. The idea behind Camping Sunset is as simple as it is radical: an actor only really learns to play by playing a lot, in front of and with an audience.
In Tillsammans, 13 young creators/players from KASK Drama, under the direction of player collective Camping Sunset, play the story of a Swedish commune from the 1970s. The rules are simple: Pippie Longstocking is a capitalist, washing up is bourgeois and porridge is the delicacy. But love is free, the children belong to everyone, and everyone belongs!
For eight weeks, this occasional community allowed fiction and reality to blend. Living and working together turns out to be anything but obvious, yet much needed. How do you put 13 different opinions side by side? How do you avoid getting into each other's hair? Or do you? And who does the washing-up at the end of the day? Collectivity, conflict and a bit of communism. A quest for togetherness against the odds. Because only love remains, that's all there is.
