It is 2035, ten years after the legendary sitcom The First Season, made and played by a theatre collective on the brink of financial ruin. With no budget, just a real group of friends in a real pub. A TV series that was so rarely authentic and radical, so hilarious and disturbing, so deeply human and tragic, that it became an instant cult hit. However, to the bewilderment of its ever-growing fanbase, the series had a gaping open ending. Life had mercilessly overtaken fiction.

Ten years later, sitcoms are retro, a genre from a time when laughing was closer to us than crying. Nostalgia has become a revenue model and so producers are bringing the group back together. How have they fared? Can they continue together?

THE SITCOM/The Second Season is a schizophrenic tragicomedy in which actors with tragic lives have to play that same life, but as a joke. At the same time, you also see the making of that sitcom, including the loves, the break-ups, the mistrust, the tentative attempts at rapprochement, the betrayals and the hope, always, that things will work out after all. Always the hope for a happy ending.
